The Bilingual Child Forensic Interview Specialist and Trainer, a new position at the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC), is for an experienced Child Forensic Interviewer to provide Spanish and English Forensic Interviews for NCAC’s local services and Forensic Interviewing Training in Huntsville, AL and across the U.S. The Trainer will conduct group training sessions and help to develop new program curriculum for training projects. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Conduct interactive and didactic group training sessions regarding the implementation of NCAC’s Child Forensic Interview Structure.
  • Provide telephone, e-mail, and webinar support to training participants, post-training.
  • Conduct workshop presentations at local, state, and national conferences.
  • Work with the Senior Trainer and other NCAC Trainers to develop curriculum design and related educational materials for training projects.
  • Help to develop materials for use with Spanish Speaking children and families.
  • Serve as Forensic Interviewer for NCAC’s forensic interviewing services.
  • Participate in on-going training, supervision, and peer review with NCAC’s other Forensic Interview Specialists.
  • Participate in the development of initiatives for training and mentoring Spanish Speaking Child Forensic Interviewers.
  • Maintain on-going knowledge of literature about best practice in child forensic interviewing.

Education and/or Experience
  • Require Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field. Prefer Master’s degree.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English. Fluent in written and spoken Spanish, required.
  • Five years experience conducting forensic interviews of children, in Spanish and English.
  • Prefer some experience delivering training to members of a multidisciplinary team, including CAC staff, law enforcement, prosecutors, and child protective services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and people skills with the ability to work independently, within a team environment and with a diverse group of people.
  • Knowledge of the child advocacy center (CAC) multidisciplinary team (MDT) response to child abuse.
  • Knowledge of best practice guidelines for forensic interviews of children.
  • Reading and comprehension skills to screen and edit training materials.
  • Ability to speak in front of a large group of people.
  • Ability to co-train.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Special Requirements
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, when necessary.
  • Must be willing to travel. During first year of employment, travel is expected to be an average of one trip every two months. In subsequent years, travel may increase to an average of one or two trips per month.
  • Must be living in or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient on a PC. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and the ability to learn specific software programs used within the department.

Compensation and Benefits
The NCAC offers a comprehensive benefits package including sick and annual leave; health, dental, vision and life insurance; and a 401k plan. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.
